Dallas Cowboys legend Romo, 45, hit out as a controversial referee decision denied tight end Travis Kelce, 36, a touchdown.

Kelce appeared to have scored his 85th career touchdown against the Colts. The Chiefs star rushed into the end zone during the first quarter. Kelce faked a hand-off to 25-year-old wide receiver Rashee Rice before rushing over to score.

It seemed as though Kelce had extended his record as the Chiefs’ top touchdown scorer.

But a flag was thrown on the play. Offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, 27, was called for a facemask penalty. This meant that the Chiefs were sent back 15 yards with Kelce’s touchdown scrubbed off.

The decision was particularly controversial as Taylor’s facemask contact appeared minimal as CBS showed replays of the incident.

“You just wasted a great play,” Romo said. “This has happened three or four times in games we’ve been doing recently. “Now you’ve just lost a great play, and that’s not a 15-yard penalty.”

The decision proved especially contentious with the game’s status as a must-win for the Chiefs. There are growing suggestions that the Chiefs’ dynasty is now over following a horror start to the 2025 NFL season.

They had claimed just five wins from ten games ahead of their meeting with the 8-2 Colts. The Chiefs entered the game as the third-ranked franchise in the AFC West. Reid’s Chiefs ultimately clinched a three-point overtime win against the Colts. Kelce and the Chiefs will travel to face the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium for their Thanksgiving Day clash.
