The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon with their postseason hopes hanging in the balance.

Andy Reid’s side have reached five of the past six Super Bowls – winning three of them – but they are currently out of the AFC playoff places.

According to the NFL’s own calculations, Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and Co had a 47 percent chance of reaching the postseason heading into Sunday’s game. Defeat by the Colts, however, would have slashed their chances to just 29 percent.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, they avoided a potentially-disastrous loss to force overtime against the Colts, before Harrison Butker kicked the game-winning field goal to move them to 6-5.

Kelce registered four catches for 43 yards on the day, with the likes of Rashee Rice (eight catches for 146 yards) and Kareem Hunt (30 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown) proving more influential in the Kansas City offense.

The game came a couple of days after he addressed his looming retirement. This was widely expected to be the 36-year-old’s final year in the NFL. But Kelce has opened the door to a 14th season with the Chiefs, revealing that he will make his mind up at the end of the 2025 campaign.

That could have arrived sooner than planned if the Chiefs lost to the Colts and, on Sunday, Kelce showed up at Arrowhead in an all-black get up.

It remains unclear whether his fiancee Taylor Swift – a regular at Chiefs games over recent years – was in the stands Sunday. While she was not seen arriving, or pictured in the stands, the songstress has made a number of secret appearances at Arrowhead this year.

Kelce has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs and, in recent years, grown to become football’s biggest star. The tight end, who announced his engagement to Swift back in August, is in the final year of his contract with Kansas City. But on Friday he left the door open to returning for 2026.

‘I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not – or whether they want me back or not,’ Kelce said. He added that he plans to decide by early March – before the start of NFL free agency.
