Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have been dating since the summer, and Kelce remains impressed by Swift’s star power.
The latest example: Swift’s appearance at Gillette Stadium on Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the New England Patriots. When Swift was shown on the stadium’s Jumbotron wearing Chiefs gear, the fan reaction was mixed, but plenty of people (in a notoriously enthusiastic sports region) cheered for the pop star. On the field, Kelce noticed the ovation and appreciated its rarity.
“You don’t see an entire home team fanbase go insane for somebody wearing the opposite team’s colors,” Kelce said on the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast. “It just shows you how amazing that girl is. They went absolutely insane when they showed Taylor on the screen. There might have been a few Brads and Chads that were booing, but for the most part, everybody was f—ing screaming their tail off for her.” That put Kelce in a difficult position as he tried to focus on the task at hand.
“I was trying to keep it cool,” he said. “‘Don’t show your cards, don’t show your cards.’ It was fun, man.” Next to the image of Swift, the Jumbotron showed a quote from one of Swift’s concerts earlier this year. Playing in front of an enthusiastic New England crowd, Swift informed them that “Gillette Stadium is one of the most joyful places on Earth.”
To the fans who booed her on Sunday, an unbothered Swift smiled and blew kisses. She has received warm welcomes in several stadiums this year, including Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The Chiefs gave Swift plenty to cheer for in a 27-17 victory against an overmatched Patriots team with its eyes on the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Kelce finished with just five catches and 28 yards, but the Chiefs took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter, and the Patriots’ offense never seriously threatened the result. At 9-5, the Chiefs are third in the AFC playoff hunt, trailing the Miami Dolphins by a game.
“Shout out to the Patriots, New England,” Kelce said. “Taylor is on record saying that that stadium is one of the funnest that she’s played at. For them to show her is just kind of showing her some love, so shout out to the Patriots for doing that.” The Chiefs take the field again on Christmas Day for a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders at 1 p.m.
