The Philadelphia Eagles suffered injury scares to quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver AJ Brown in their final game of the regular season against the New York Giants on Sunday.
First, Brown limped off the field with a knee injury and then Hurts’ middle finger on his throwing hand appeared to pop out of its socket after he collided with Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke. Hurts initially returned to the game but was then replaced by Marcus Mariota shortly before halftime, while Brown was listed as questionable to return.
At the time of writing, the wide receiver had yet to play another snap since his first-half injury. Philadelphia didn’t have the luxury of sitting out players for its final game of the season because it is still competing for playoff positioning in the NFC.
The Giants rushed into a remarkable 24-0 lead on the Eagles in a game that carries much greater significance for Philadelphia than New York. About a month ago, the Eagles were viewed as Super Bowl favorites having enjoyed an NFL-best 10-1 start to the season. Heading into Sunday’s game, however, Philadelphia was 1-4 in its previous five games. Hurts and Brown are both integral to the Eagles success, with a much harder road to the Super Bowl ahead this season, even if they’re both healthy.
