Jeopardy! viewers have slammed a ‘disgusting’ clue about Travis Kelce despite the game show apologizing for being shady.
Over the weekend, the program’s official Instagram account took a jab at the 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end and his relationship with multi award-winning singer Taylor Swift, 34, much to the outrage of many followers. The clue, which was jokingly captioned ‘sorry to this man’ alongside a laughing emoji, read: ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? is hosted by this man who’s maybe more famous as a BF than as a three-time Super Bowl champ.’
Many were outraged by the dig at Travis’s expense and said Jeopardy! should be ‘ashamed’. Taking to the comments, one said: ‘This is really what we’re stooping to?’ Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘This was a disgusting nod to Travis, you should be ashamed.’
A third added: ‘Ouch that’s got to sting.’ A fourth wrote: ‘Travis Kelce is the greatest tight end to ever play in the NFL. He’s a first ballot Hall of Famer. He’s made well over 100 million for his career. ‘He’s the star of two shows that have premiered this fall and will be staring in two movies next year.
‘As far as Jeopardy! goes it’s just a dying game show that has become tired and stale with ratings that have been steadily dying over the last few years. ‘Travis Kelce has a very bright future. Can’t say the same for Jeopardy!’ Some, however, were less offended.
‘Why the apology?’ asked one. ‘For ages women have been referenced as someone’s wife or girlfriend and that’s ok? ‘Heck, they even change their name but suddenly being a famous woman’s bf is throwing shade?’
Another wrote: ‘Anyone upset by this just proves how soft and weak society is that they can’t handle a joke like this. If you’re offended you need help.’ While Jeopardy! viewers were up in arms, Travis broke a franchise record on Sunday with his second touchdown of the season.
While the sports star has had a slow start to the year by his lofty standards, he caught a much-needed touchdown late in the first half against the Denver Broncos. Not only was it hugely important for the team, but it also tied him at number one for the most receiving touchdowns in Chiefs history.
The tight end joined the legendary Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez on 76 career touchdowns – and he’s sure to smash through that mark as his career continues. The touchdown left Travis’s girlfriend Taylor delighted as she cheered on her man in the VIP suites at Arrowhead Stadium.
