This marks Mahomes Sr.’s third DUI offense, with the arrest occurring on Saturday in Tyler, Texas. Mahomes Sr. previously faced DUI charges in 2018, resulting in a 40-day jail sentence. Notably, he served his sentence on weekends between February 2019 and February 2020. The latest arrest, coming just a week before the Super Bowl LVIII showdown between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, adds an unexpected distraction for his son, Patrick Mahomes Jr.

While no injuries were reported in the recent incident, Texas law dictates that Mahomes Sr. could face a prison term ranging from two to ten years due to it being his third DUI offense. The timing of the arrest is particularly sensitive, echoing past Super Bowl distractions involving Chiefs personnel. The incident resulted in severe injuries for a young girl.
