For any NFL fan who has criticized Taylor Swift’s presence at the Kansas City Chiefs games to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce, you might want to get used to it.
Not only is the team’s tight end thrilled to have his girlfriend there, but his BFF and the team’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, is praising her, too. In a conversation with CBS Mornings, Patrick shared how big of an impact she’s made in both his professional and personal life. “She’s top-tier at her profession. And to see how she drives, and she becomes that — dude, it’s really cool to hear about and to see,” he said. “Now I have a firsthand look at that through Brittany and Travis’ eyes.”
The “Shake It Up” singer has developed a close relationship with Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, and it’s something that he truly appreciates. He’s not only gotten to know Swift through Kelce, but he also gets to see what his happening in the relationship through his wife’s perspective. “It’s cool that she’s embraced Brittany and they’ve built a friendship as well,” Patrick gushed. “So, for me, it’s Travis, and he’s lucky enough to be with a great girl and a great woman. It’s been cool to interact with her.”
That doesn’t mean Patrick and his teammates didn’t tease Kelce at first for dating one of the world’s biggest pop stars. “Everybody stayed away [and] just let [Travis] do what he was doing,” he shared. “Then he started bringing Taylor around. He realized how cool of a person she was — and she is — and so for us, there were a couple of jokes here and there at the beginning.”
But for the Kansas City Chiefs, they consider her “part of Chiefs Kingdom” and “part of the team.” Swift has made sure of that by supporting her boyfriend just as much as he supports her unbelievably successful career. The 34-year-old singer revealed how important this was to her in her TIME 2023 Person of the Year interview.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she said. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.” That true belief in each other shines right through, and it only makes Swift an asset to the team with the positive spotlight she shines on them.
