Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is glad to escape the massive attention he gets as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, calling the team’s training camp a ‘sanctuary’ for him personally.
The Chiefs have a long standing relationship with Missouri Western University, where they hold training camp at the Division-II powerhouse in St. Joseph.
Players stay in dorms and have the tradition of spending time closer together instead of the teams that have camp and release players home every evening.
‘I love it here,’ Kelce said of training camp. It gets me away from everything else that’s going on in this crazy world. You can really just focus in on your craft and focus in on being the best you can for the guys around you, man.’
‘Football has always been the biggest driving force I’ve ever had. I love coming out here and focusing on this and getting better for another run at hopefully a Super Bowl.’
Kelce added he flushed the pain from losing the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles a long time ago, with him being individually criticized for his performance in the loss.
Kelce did take the loss to heart, even while around Swift, coming into this year’s training camp looking slimmer than he did 12 months ago.
‘He’s svelte right now. He looks like he’s 20,’ Chiefs coach Andy Reid said last month. ‘He’s doing a good job and he’s in great shape. I’m not sure he didn’t come in first on the whole conditioning thing. He was right up front. You can see he’s been working out. He’s worked hard to get to this spot.’
During the 2024 offseason, Kelce and Swift’s relationship was new, as he appeared to be more distracted by her worldwide ‘Eras Tour’ and other responsibilities including hosting Prime Video’s ‘Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?’.
This was a more low-key period away from the gridiron in 2025, as outside of a few moments, stayed away from cameras.
A determined Kelce would reap benefits for the Chiefs, as he is still considered one of the best tight ends in football, with Swift expected to root him on from a luxury suite at Arrowhead Stadium.
