Ed Kelce, the father of Kansas City Chiefs star and former Philadelphia Eagles standout Jason Kelce, experienced a personal tragedy last week.
On Friday, Ed’s longtime girlfriend Maureen Maguire, passed away at the age of 74. Maguire was a native of the Bronx, N.Y. who spent most of her life in the suburbs of Philadelphia, according to her obituary,
Maguire is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and two siblings, Ed Kelce was also mentioned in the obit as her “beloved friend.
“Maureen found joy in life’s simple pleasures,” the obituary reads. “She loved the beach—especially the shore—and had a deep affection for dogs.
In recent years, she spent treasured time in Cape May with her family, enjoying peaceful days by the ocean. She also grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch.
Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.”
In recent years, Maguire and Ed Kelce were spotted together at Chiefs games, watching Travis play from the family’s luxury suite.
Ed Kelce left ‘heartbroken’
Ed Kelce shared news of Maguire’s death on his personal Facebook page and also posted a picture of himself, Maguire and Travis’ girlfriend, music star Taylor Swift, on the obituary wall.
Not surprisingly, the elder Kelce is feeling “heartbroken” following the loss, according to PEOPLE. “Maureen wasn’t just his partner, she was his person,” PEOPLE’s source said.
“They were a team. They shared everything… games, concerts, travel, dogs, dinners with family. He’s feeling an enormous void.”
Public support has been flowing
If there is any consolation for the Kelce family during this time, it is that Ed has seen an outpouring of condolences and uplifting messages since news of Maguire’s death was made public.
“Ed Kelce shared a photo of him and his girlfriend with Taylor. Knowing her kindness and the bond they have I am sure she has checked in with him while Travis is at camp,” one person wrote on X/Twitter.
“So sorry, Ed. I’m sure you brought each other a lot of joy,” another person said on Facebook.
